Today Canada remembers the 100th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge, which took place during the first world war in Vimy Ridge, France.
This piece, Resurrection, is from Brian Lorimer's series Project Remembrance which commemorates the centennial of the first world war.
Walter Seymour Allward’s Vimy monument marks a place of commemoration for the many soldiers who have no known grave. Resurrection was painted as a tribute to those men, with a particular nod to the tunnellers, often unheralded.
Prints of this painting and others from the series are being sold with proceeds going to the Support Our Troops Program and can be purchased from the Project Remembrance website.
