Axangayuk Shaa

Axangayuk Shaa was born 1935 in Satuqitu and now resides in Cape Dorset. He started carving at the age of 15 and began selling his pieces to those aboard the government ship the C.D. Howe - a ship that traveled between Arctic communities offering medical care. His wife Aqsatungua Kilabuk Pudlat is the sister of renowned graphic artist Pitaloosie Saila. Axangayuk is the eldest living carver on Cape Dorset and is well known for his dancing walruses.
